Remember the silly "walk like a penguin" adverts for salt or shovels or gripper boots or something? Well, there's a lot of that going on today in Ottawa. What the forecasters billed as the first "big" storm of the season was a bit of a dud here. We got a few hours of light snow that then turned into rain, lots and lots of rain. Around the time is was thinking about getting dark the sky turned a funny yellow colour, got very bright, and the temperature went way up. It was up around 7 or 8°C. It stayed like that for a bit then dropped to -11°C and that was that. Now the streets are covered in a thick layer of ice and it's downright chilly out there. So much for 30cm of snow, I would have preferred that instead of the ice. Ick!
