We took our last shopping trip with the automobile tonight. We took a run to Costco to impulse shop for bulk foods we don't need and jumbo rolls of tp. We had to go out to deliver two Norfolk Island pines to friends. It was ten years that I was without car, when I first came to Ottawa, and then four years with the car and now we're doing our bit for Canada and the Kyoto Protocol. One less car!
We'll go back to ordering groceries online and walking to the store for the fresh stuff. I did it while I was on my own back in 2000 and it's really a nice service to use. There is nothing like picking the canned goods and other assorteds from a list online then reading the Saturday paper and waiting for the dudes to deliver the goods. They bring along a portable interac machine so you don't even have to go to the bank to get cash. And on the really cold winter mornings it's so nice to open the door and let them carry in the groceries so you don't even have to get out of your pyjamas.
